Pilates
(pronounced Pi-lah-tis) is a unique and dynamic form
of mind body conditioning which focuses on strengthening the whole
body from the inside out. It is currently the number one exercise
choice for celebrities and dancers all over the world and originated
in the 1920’s from the legendary physical
trainer Joseph H Pilates.
Pilates
is more complex than other forms of exercise, a fusion of eastern and
western philosophies teaching you about breathing with movement, body
mechanics, balance, co-ordination and positioning of the body. Benefits
include increased strength and flexibility, improved posture and core
stability which results in a streamlined and lean physique. Nothing
is forced or repetitive, you emphasis correct form rather than going
for the burn.
You
can attend matwork classes at Pizza Express or private lessons at the
studio using specially designed machines such as the reformer, cadillac
and barrel. Pilates is for anyone, of any age, wishing to improve his
or her total fitness, posture and appearance. Sessions will leave you
feeling relaxed, refreshed and energised.
Here
at the Pilates Studio, Maidstone I specialise in back care and rehab
but have many clients attending for general fitness. If you like to
master things quickly this may not be the workout for you. Like dance,
yoga and martial arts learning Pilates is a long term evolutionary process.
To
gain maximum benefit from Pilates, courses are booked in blocks of 10,
normally taking one to two sessions a week. Sessions are generally taken
1:1 but can be taken 1:2 and 1:3. Once you have completed your 10 week
introductory course you can choose to continue your 1:1 sessions and/or
attend matwork classes.
